  • What is Tinitell?

    Tinitell is a wearable mobile phone for kids. Super simple, fun, and durable. It's one of the first GSM/GPS wearables with voice calling services and it works with a 2G micro SIM card. With Tinitell your child is able to call and receive calls in a safe and secure way.

    Tinitell has one primary button to make calls with - just press and hold the big button to initiate a call. You can scroll through up to 12 numbers you want to call by pressing the + / - buttons.

    Parents manage it from a smartphone app from where they can also locate Tinitell. The app is Tinitell’s command center. You can modify Tinitell’s settings, geo-locate it, you can control who can make calls and how.

    The design is created by a team of Scandinavian industrial designers, and is also made to appeal to grown-ups seeking a basic wristphone for rugged outdoor activities, as well as to the elderly and disabled.

    With Tinitell you don't need the smartphone attached to your device. It works independently, so that you will not worry about lost, broken, uncomfortable smart devices, while on outdoor adventures.

    You can check the battery status directly on your Tinitell. Hold the (+) plus button for 2 seconds and the lights will properly indicate the level.

    Only use the Tinitell provided magnetic cable to charge your Tinitell!

    You can also charge your Tinitell from a regular socket using a wall adapter with USB. USB charger adapters (like the ones used for cellphones) will regulate the supplied current and when the battery is charged they will stop charging the device. Tinitell is also equipped with surge protection to avoid overcharging. If you want to use a charging block with the Tinitell charging cable, please make sure that it is a 5V / 1A charging block and, if possible, choose a reputable accessory brand.

    How to charge your Tinitell

    Connect the USB and the Tinitell with the provided cable. The LED lights will show the charging progress. Keep the Tinitell charging until a green / orange LED is shown (fully charged). It can take up to 2h.

    Indicators

    A red blinking light means that you have less of 16% battery on your Tinitell device, and you should connect it to a charger.

    When connected, the LEDs around the ring, show the charging progress. It starts with a fast blinking red light when charge is almost zero. As the battery gets charged, the lights will illuminate clockwise. A full charge, is indicated with a solid green or orange light.

Here's a list of tested carriers for Tinitell. If the answer is "yes" to all these questions and you still encounter issues receiving location updates, please email us to hello@tinitell.com and our support team will help out.

  • Calling from Tinitell to Tinitell

    It is quite easy to call a Tinitell from another Tinitell. Just add Tinitell friend's number on the contact list of your Tinitell and you're done. Happy Talking!

  • Calling and travelling abroad

    As long as the roaming option is activated and there is enough credit on Tinitell's SIM Card, Tinitell works in any country in the world, with a few exceptions. Find out more details about Tinitell's network compatibility here.

    Please note that Tinitell needs data credit in order to update its location. As roaming might be expensive, especially data, a valid option for certain countries is to get a prepaid local SIM Card for the Tinitell.

    We have tested a number of operators to make sure that Tinitell will work fine in different countries, so please follow this reference list of recommended operators.

Tracking

  • Tinitell Smart Location (GPS Tracking)

    With Tinitell, you are able to locate your kid in a safe and secure way. Just open the Tinitell app (after pairing it with Tinitell) and see the location on the map. Tinitell uses GPS, cell tower triangulation and wifi to provide a good location indoors and outdoors.

    Tinitell_GPS_Tracking.png

    In order to see location updates, you just have to pair Tinitell to the Tinitell app on your smartphone.

    If you don't see any location updates in the app, and the location pin remains grey after 15 seconds, please check the following: that you have inserted the SIM card correctly, that you have data on Tinitell's SIM card and that you have activated the SIM card with the carrier. Here's a list of tested carriers for Tinitell. If the answer is "yes" to all these questions and you still encounter issues receiving location updates, please email us to hello@tinitell.com and our support team will help out.

    All set? It’s time to go play outside with your kid! :)

  • Location Accuracy

    Our tests indicate that outdoor accuracy is the same as a normal smartphone with GPS, which is 1 meter accuracy. For indoor accuracy, we are seeing 20 to 40 m where there are wifi points.

    When there are no wifi points available, we aim at 400 - 500m in rural areas and less than 200m in urban areas.

  • Why do I need data if Tinitell has GPS?

    Tinitell uses GPS, cell tower triangulation and wifi to provide a good location indoors and outdoors. It has a GPS module incorporated and GPS is used as the primary localisation system.

    As the map and the GPS module are not incorporated in the same device (the map is on your smartphone) Tinitell needs data services to transmit its location to the app.

    Based on our latest analysis, Tinitell needs on average 50 - 100 MB of data per month. We are constantly improving the localisation algorithm and optimising the frequency in transmitting the data, so as to reduce the data consumption.

  • How much data credit do I need?

    Based on our latest analysis, Tinitell needs on average 50 - 100 MB of data per month. We are constantly improving the localisation algorithm and optimising the frequency in transmitting the data, so as to reduce the data consumption.

  • Activating Your Tinitell With Ting

    Ting makes cell phone service simple and affordable. You only pay for what you use each month. This makes Ting perfect for Tinitell users. Based on typical Tinitell usage, you can expect to pay around $9 a month plus tax.

    These are the three simple steps to get your new Tinitell up and running on the Ting network: check coverage in your area, activate the SIM card that came with your Tinitell, then set some alerts or caps.

    How to activate your Ting SIM card:

    • Have your Tinitell IMEI number at hand (the IMEI is 15 digit long, written on the back of your Tinitell);
    • Get a new number from Ting (or bring a number from another carrier to Ting);
    • Have your card ready.

    Read more on the Tinitell dedicated page on the Ting website.

  • Can I connect Tinitell to two or more phones?

    Of course! It's now possible to connect Tinitell to more than one phone via the Tinitell app using the same account. You can log in with the same account credentials on another smartphone, and you will be able to access the Tinitell app settings and see the device's GPS positioning.

    We are now developing a new feature of the app, that will allow several accounts to be associated with the same Tinitell, but we need to test it extensively before the release, both on iOS and Android. This is a very sensitive feature from a security point of view and we want to make sure there will be no weak points.

    If you want to connect Tinitell to a different account (full settings management) you need to perform a factory reset on the Tinitell.

  • What is cell network signal strength?

    Tintell needs data in order to send location updates to the Tinitell app via the cell network. Please make sure that you are loading the Tinitell SIM card with at least 100MB of data every month.

    Tinitell connects to the 2G cell network and needs a good signal in order to make calls and to send location updates.

    When cell network signal strength is low, your Tinitell may have trouble connecting, so it can’t make calls or send location updates to the app.

    What can prevent Tinitell from connecting to the network:

    • low or no 2G network coverage in the area where you are using Tinitell;
    • being indoors;
    • Tinitell being tucked away in a backpack or wrapped in metal foil;
    • having no data on the SIM card.

    Signal strength may not be good in some areas, but it can be excellent in other parts where you need to use Tinitell. You can test this and check Diagnostics for more days and you have 14 days in order to return a product you’ve bought from us if you cannot use it because of “unusable” network signal.

    Examples of messages you may see in the Tinitell app:

    unusable_or_low.png

    Tinitell may not be able to connect to the cell network

    Signal strength is very low at the moment. Finish setting up your Tinitell, then go to Tinitell Settings > Diagnostics to check the signal strength.

    The cellular signal in this area is quite low
    You may have trouble getting location updates from Tinitell. Finish setting up your Tinitell, then go to Tinitell Settings > Diagnostics to check the signal strength in the future.

    If you’re having trouble with your Tinitell or you need more information about these messages, please email us to hello@tinitell.com and we’ll help out.

  • How to clean your Tinitell

    Normal use of a wearable device includes contact with the skin. On a daily basis, we can use different chemical products like sunblock, lotion, mosquito repellant and others. These products combined with the natural sweat our body produces can create a layer on top of the contact pins used for charging Tinitell. This is why the back of the device should be cleaned on a regular basis. Summer season and the increase in outdoor activities might require a higher cleaning frequency than other seasons.

    How to clean the Tinitell band?

    Use a soft cloth with soapy water or alcohol to remove any dirt, particles or excess moisture on the device band, being careful not to let any excess water enter the device. Please don't use soapy water on the Tinitell charging pins. Alcohol is non-conductive and dries quickly, so you can also use it on the back of the device, to clean the charging pin area.

    How to clean the charging port?

    Use a soft cloth with alcohol to remove any dust, particles or excess moisture on the device. Alcohol is non-conductive and dries quickly. Please only do this on the pin area to avoid removing the Tinitell IMEI number from the backplate.

    If this is not sufficient, please use an eraser like the one found on the back of a pencil and rub the contact points on your backplate. Any type of eraser is suitable to use, but the harder the eraser the better. After using the eraser, clean again with alcohol and soft wipe to remove any remaining particles.

    How NOT to clean the charging port?

    Do not use any metallic product or abrasive material. Doing this will create scratch this surface, making more difficult the connection between the charging cable and the connection pad on the back of Tinitell. In case a product has been cleaned with an abrasive material, the warranty would be void.

    Do not use acetone or nail polish. These chemicals can react with the plastic and metallic parts on Tinitell and do irreparable damage. Any damage due to the use of these type of chemical would void the warranty. Water should not be used since it will rust the metallic parts on the back of Tinitell, and takes a long time to dry.

  • I want to connect my Tinitell to another account

    Tinitell can only be connected and managed from one account. You can, however, pair Tinitell to more than one phone via the Tinitell app, but you must use the same account. You can log in with the same account credentials on another smartphone, and you will be able to access the Tinitell app settings and see the device's GPS location updates.

     If you want to connect Tinitell to a different account (full settings management) you need to perform a factory reset on Tinitell.

    Follow these steps to reset Tinitell to factory settings:

    1. Make sure your Tinitell is OFF
    2. Connect the charging cable to the Tinitell and wait for LED lights to come up
    3. Press and hold the "+" volume button
    4. After Tinitell vibrates once, keep pressing the “+" volume button and disconnect the charging cable
    5. Now, release “+" volume button”
    6. The factory reset is confirmed by Tinitell saying "Bye bye, talk you later!"

    If you have trouble performing the factory reset, please contact our customer support team at hello@tinitell.com.
